Membranes

Various anion and cation membranes for flow batteries, electrolysis, and CO2 electrolysis.

Ion exchange membranes are the heart of modern electrochemical systems — governing ion transport, selectivity, and efficiency in applications from green hydrogen production to energy storage. We stock a curated range of high-quality ion exchange membranes from Fumatech, covering both cation and anion exchange chemistries to suit a broad spectrum of research and engineering needs.

Cation exchange membranes (CEM) selectively transport positive ions (H⁺, Na⁺, K⁺) while blocking anions, making them the standard choice for proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis, fuel cells, and vanadium redox flow batteries. Our range includes reinforced and non-reinforced options across a range of thicknesses, with PTFE-reinforced variants offering exceptional mechanical durability for demanding operating conditions.

Anion exchange membranes (AEM) selectively transport negative ions (OH⁻, Cl⁻, HCO₃⁻) and are the enabling technology for alkaline water electrolysis, AEM fuel cells, and chlor-alkali processes. The fumasep FAA-3 series spans non-reinforced thin-film membranes for low-resistance research applications through to heavy-duty PK-reinforced formats for pilot and scale-up systems.

All membranes in our range are sourced directly from the manufacturer, supplied with full technical datasheets, and available in standard sheet sizes or custom formats. Whether you are building a first prototype or scaling up to a full electrochemical stack, we can help you select the right membrane for your chemistry, cell architecture, and performance targets.
