About the product

The FAA-3-PK-75 is a 75 µm PK (polyketone)-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech, developed for electrochemical applications where both low ionic resistance and high mechanical durability are required. The PK reinforcement sets it apart from the non-reinforced FAA-3-50, making it the preferred choice for demanding cell geometries, higher operating pressures, or applications prone to membrane stress during assembly and cycling.

The PK reinforcement delivers exceptional mechanical integrity — Young’s modulus >1000 MPa, tensile strength >40 MPa, and burst test >3 bar — while keeping dimensional swelling in water below 3%. Area resistance is below 2 Ω·cm² (Cl⁻ form, 0.5 M NaCl, 25 °C) and ion selectivity exceeds 92%, ensuring efficient anion transport with minimal proton crossover (proton transfer rate <2000 nmol min⁻¹ cm⁻²).

The membrane is supplied in bromide (Br⁻) form and dry state, without a backing foil. Assembly can be carried out dry or wet depending on application and cell design. For wet pretreatment, place the membrane between stabilising meshes or spacers (to prevent curling) in 0.5 M NaCl solution at 25 °C for 72 hours, exchanging the solution several times. Once wetted, do not allow the membrane to dry out, as shrinkage may cause micro-cracks.

The FAA-3-PK-75 is stable across pH 1–14 at 25 °C, with a recommended operating temperature of 15–40 °C. Note that the membrane is not resistant to chlorine (Cl₂).
