Fumatech fumasep FAA-3-PK-130 – PK-reinforced anion exchange membrane offering maximum mechanical robustness (tensile strength >50 MPa, burst >3 bar) with low proton crossover and full pH stability (1–14) in a heavy-duty 130 µm format for demanding electrochemical applications.
The FAA-3-PK-130 is a 130 µm PK (polyketone)-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech, the thickest member of the FAA-3-PK series. It is designed for electrochemical applications where maximum mechanical durability and minimal proton crossover take priority — making it well suited for cell configurations subject to high assembly pressures, aggressive electrolytes, or extended cycling where membrane integrity is critical.
The reinforced construction delivers the highest tensile strength in the FAA-3 family at >50 MPa, alongside a Young’s modulus >1000 MPa and burst test >3 bar, while limiting dimensional swelling in water to below 3%. Proton transfer rate is kept below 2000 nmol min⁻¹ cm⁻², ensuring good anion selectivity with low H⁺ leakage. Area resistance is below 4.5 Ω·cm² (Cl⁻ form, 0.5 M NaCl, 25 °C), a reasonable trade-off for the significantly enhanced mechanical performance at this thickness.
The membrane is supplied in bromide (Br⁻) form and dry state, without a backing foil. Assembly can be carried out dry or wet depending on application and cell design. For wet pretreatment, place the membrane between stabilising meshes or spacers (to prevent curling) in 0.5 M NaCl solution at 25 °C for 72 hours, exchanging the solution several times. Once wetted, do not allow the membrane to dry out, as shrinkage may cause micro-cracks.
The FAA-3-PK-130 is stable across pH 1–14 at 25 °C, with a recommended operating temperature of 15–40 °C. Note that the membrane is not resistant to chlorine (Cl₂).
