About the product

The FAAM-20 is a 20 µm non-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech with ternary ammonium functional groups, specifically designed for alkaline water electrolysis using liquid aqueous KOH electrolyte at concentrations of 6–12 M and temperatures up to 100°C.

It offers exceptional mechanical strength for its thickness — tensile strength >100 MPa and Young’s modulus >1200 MPa — combined with outstanding alkaline chemical stability. Dimensional swelling under treatment with 12 M KOH is well controlled, with length increase <2% and swelling (hydration) <60 wt%, ensuring stable geometry within the cell. Thermal stability extends to 250°C in dry state.

The membrane is self-activating in the cell upon contact with aqueous KOH electrolyte within a few hours. It is delivered dry on a PET backing foil; dry assembly is recommended, after which the membrane activates in-situ. If pre-activation is preferred, soak between stabilizing meshes in KOH solution for at least 24 hours in a closed container to prevent CO₂ contamination.
