Fumatech fumasep FAA-3-50 – non-reinforced anion exchange membrane for electrochemical applications, delivering very low area resistance, high ion selectivity, and full pH stability (1–14) in a compact 50 µm format.
The FAA-3-50 is a 50 µm non-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech, designed for electrochemical applications demanding low area resistance and reliable anion transport. It is well suited for anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs), anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE), and redox flow batteries operating across a wide pH range.
The membrane achieves an area resistance below 2.5 Ω·cm² (Cl⁻ form, 0.5 M NaCl, 25 °C) and ion selectivity above 90%, while keeping dimensional swelling in water below 4%. Its non-reinforced design maintains solid mechanical integrity — Young’s modulus >500 MPa, tensile strength >20 MPa, and burst test >2 bar — within a thin, low-impedance profile suited to compact cell architectures.
The membrane is supplied in bromide (Br⁻) form and dry state, stabilised with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to prevent embrittlement during storage. Pretreatment is simple: soak in deionised water before or after assembly (dry assembly is recommended). If additional cleaning is needed, rinse in the application solution or deionised water. Once wetted, do not allow the membrane to dry out, as shrinkage may cause micro-cracks.
The FAA-3-50 is stable across the full pH range 1–14 at 25 °C, with a recommended operating temperature of 15–40 °C. Note that the membrane is not resistant to chlorine (Cl₂).
