About the product

The FAAM-PK-75 is a 75 µm PK-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech with ternary ammonium functional groups, designed for alkaline water electrolysis using liquid aqueous KOH at concentrations of 6–12 M and temperatures up to 100°C.

The key differentiator from the FAAM-20 is the PK (polyketone) reinforcement layer, which significantly enhances mechanical robustness — Young’s modulus >1000 MPa in dry state — while keeping dimensional change under control: length increase under 9 M KOH treatment remains <2%, with swelling (hydration) of 40–60 wt%. This makes the FAAM-PK-75 particularly well suited for applications demanding greater mechanical durability, such as pressurised electrolysis cells. Thermal stability extends to 250°C in dry state, and the membrane is stable under highly alkaline conditions.

Note that unlike the FAAM-20, the FAAM-PK-75 is supplied without a PET backing foil. The membrane is self-activating in the cell upon contact with aqueous KOH within a few hours. Dry assembly is recommended; pre-activation can be done by soaking between stabilizing meshes in KOH solution for at least 24 hours in a closed container to prevent CO₂ contamination.
