Complete Electrolyser Setup – Alkaline, AEM, PEM & More

Get your electrolysis research running on day one. The Redox-Flow Complete Electrolyser Setup bundles a modular electrolyzer cell, programmable power supply, peristaltic pump, and gas separation unit into a single, ready-to-assemble system – engineered for labs working across alkaline, anion exchange membrane (AEM), and PEM water electrolysis.

At the heart of the system is our X-Cell electrolyzer, a flexible test cell built for repeatable, high-quality data. Choose between 2.5 cm × 2.5 cm or 5 cm × 5 cm active areas, and configure the current collectors and gaskets to match your electrochemistry – nickel, titanium, stainless steel, gold-coated titanium, platinum-coated titanium, or copper current collectors, with or without an interdigitated flow field, paired with PTFE, EPDM, or VITON gaskets. The main flow body is machined from corrosion-resistant PEEK (PTFE also available), rated for continuous operation up to 90°C and pressures below 10 bar, with high chemical resistance including 30 wt% KOH – so the cell holds up whether you’re screening alkaline electrolytes or running membrane-based setups. Aside from the current collectors and electrodes, the electrolyte only ever contacts corrosion-resistant polymers, which matters when you need to keep electrodes and catalysts free of metal dissolution and poisoning.

Every setup ships with the fittings, tubing, and reservoirs you need to get running fast: a 2-channel peristaltic pump for precise electrolyte circulation, glass/polypropylene bottles with purpose-built lids or PP/PTFE reservoirs with multiport lids, 1/8″ Swagelok-compatible tubing, test wires, and a programmable power supply for controlled current and voltage input. An optional gas separation unit is available for setups that need to isolate evolved hydrogen and oxygen downstream of the cell.

Current collectors can also be bought individually in any of the available materials and flow-field configurations, so you can keep iterating on cell chemistry without buying a whole new cell each time. Because every research program runs different chemistries, membranes and electrodes are sold separately – browse our full selection to match your MEA to this system.

Why researchers choose this setup

  • One system, three chemistries: swap configurations to run alkaline, AEM, or PEM electrolysis without changing platforms.
  • Modular X-Cell design: interchangeable current collectors and gaskets let you iterate on materials without buying a new cell each time.
  • Beyond electrolysis: the interchangeable gasket and current-collector design also adapts the cell for fuel cell testing and other electrochemical applications.
  • Built for harsh electrolytes: PEEK/PTFE construction and corrosion-resistant polymer wetted parts resist degradation from concentrated KOH and protect catalysts from metal-dissolution poisoning.
  • Fast setup, less integration work: pump, power supply, tubing, and reservoirs arrive matched and ready to connect.
  • Scales with your program: start with a 2.5 cm × 2.5 cm cell for screening, move to 5 cm × 5 cm as you scale results.
  • Full pH range and high temperature operation (< 90°C), up to 10 bars pressure

Applications: alkaline water electrolysis, anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEM WE), PEM electrolysis research, fuel cell testing, hydrogen production R&D, electrolyzer materials testing.
