About the product

The fumasep® FAS-PK is a PK (polyketone)-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech for electrodialysis and general electrochemical applications. Unlike the PET-reinforced FAS-PET, the PK reinforcement makes it stable in both acidic and caustic environments, so it can be used across a much wider range of process conditions.

The 130 µm version offers an area resistance below 4.5 Ω·cm² (Cl⁻ form, 0.5 M NaCl, 25 °C), selectivity above 93%, and excellent mechanical properties: Young’s modulus >1000 MPa, tensile strength >50 MPa, burst test >3 bar and dimensional swelling in water below 2%. The 75 µm version has the same chemistry and reinforcement in a thinner format for lower resistance. Detailed data for the 75 µm version are available on request.

The membrane is supplied dry, in bromide (Br⁻) form, without a backing foil. Depending on the application and cell design, it can be assembled dry or wet. For wet pretreatment, place it between stabilising meshes or spacers (to prevent curling) in 0.5 M NaCl at 25 °C for 72 hours, changing the solution several times. Once wetted, do not let the membrane dry out, as shrinkage may cause micro-cracks.

Both versions are stable across pH 1–14 at 25 °C, with a recommended operating temperature of 15–40 °C. Note that the membrane is not resistant to chlorine (Cl₂).

Main application area: Anion transport in ED; desalination and salt concentration. General electrochemical applications, including acidic/caustic environments.
