About the product

The fumasep® FKL-PK is a PK (polyketone)-reinforced cation exchange membrane from Fumatech, built for electrodialysis (ED) and electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM). It limits OH⁻ back-migration very effectively, which makes it the preferred cation exchange membrane for alkali production and concentration.

It comes in two thicknesses. The 75 µm version has less than half the area resistance (<4.5 vs <10 Ω·cm², Cl⁻ form, 0.5 M NaCl, 25 °C) for more energy-efficient operation. The 130 µm version reaches the highest selectivity (>96%, vs >94% for 75 µm) and the most robustness. The PK reinforcement gives very high mechanical stability and high stability in acidic and caustic environments.

The membrane is supplied dry, in K⁺ form, and can be cut in the dry state. Before use, condition it in 0.5–1 M NaCl solution at ambient temperature until equilibrated, keeping it fully immersed. Avoid surfactants, organic substances and oxidants.

Both versions are stable across pH 0–14 at 25 °C, with an operating temperature range of 15–40 °C.

Main application area: ED and EDBM; alkali production/concentration with high hydroxide-blocking capability.
