About the product

The fumasep® FKS-PET is a PET-reinforced cation exchange membrane from Fumatech for electrodialysis (ED) and electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM). It is a dependable choice for cation transport in desalination, demineralisation and salt concentration, and pairs naturally with the FAS-PET anion exchange membrane in an ED stack.

Both thicknesses offer very high permselectivity (>96%). The 75 µm version has the lower area resistance (<3 Ω·cm²), while the 130 µm version (<4.0 Ω·cm²) adds mechanical robustness. Area resistance is measured in Cl⁻ form in 0.5 M NaCl at 25 °C. The woven PET reinforcement keeps both versions dimensionally stable in the x/y-direction.

The membrane is supplied dry, in K⁺ form, and can be cut in the dry state. Before use, condition it in 0.5–1 M NaCl solution at ambient temperature until equilibrated, keeping it fully immersed. Avoid surfactants, organic substances and oxidants.

Both versions have an operating temperature range of 15–40 °C.

Main application area: Cation transport in ED; desalination, demineralisation and salt concentration.
