About the product

The fumasep® FAS-PET is a PET-reinforced anion exchange membrane from Fumatech for electrodialysis (ED). It is designed for demineralisation, desalination and salt concentration, especially in neutral to acidic media, and is a cost-effective, mechanically robust option for ED research.

It comes in two thicknesses. The 75 µm version has the lowest area resistance (<2.5 Ω·cm²) for minimal cell voltage. The 130 µm version (<3.5 Ω·cm²) offers slightly higher selectivity (>93% vs >92%) and extra robustness. Area resistance is measured in Cl⁻ form in 0.5 M NaCl at 25 °C. The woven PET reinforcement keeps both versions dimensionally stable in the x/y-direction.

The membrane is supplied dry, in bromide (Br⁻) form, and can be cut in the dry state. Before use, condition it in 0.5–1 M NaCl solution at ambient temperature until equilibrated, keeping it fully immersed. Avoid surfactants, organic substances and oxidants.

Both versions are stable across pH 0–9 at 25 °C, with an operating temperature range of 15–40 °C. For strongly alkaline conditions, choose the PK-reinforced FAS-PK.

Main application area: Anion transport in ED; demineralisation, desalination and salt concentration, particularly in neutral/acidic media.
